HE-stained specimens used in histopathological tests will be stored at our company for 10 years.
If you request the return of HE-stained specimens, please check the appropriate box on the request form,
as we will hand over the specimens we have kept at our company.
Please note that if you have any inquiries regarding test results after the specimen has been returned,
you may be asked to resubmit the specimen.
Please note that if various stains, enzyme antibody stains, etc.
other than HE staining and the above-mentioned special stains are required for testing,
additional orders may be required.
When requesting block production, if the excised organ is to be submitted as is,
please be sure to include the cutout diagram and embedding direction in the request form.
If you only request staining using paraffin blocks,
we will also charge a fee for preparing unstained specimens.
If you request stained specimen preparation from unstained specimen slides,
please submit two slides for each staining
The number of blocks made is 1 to 4 for general material and 5 or more for surgical material.
Please note that the following specimens cannot be requested due to specimen handling.
Specimens other than biological tissue material
Frozen or dried tissue
Tissue neglected for a long period of time
Animal and plant tissues other than human
Samples from patients suspected of having Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
Biological tissue material that suggests a crime
Biological tissue materials suspected to be highly radioactive specimens
(due to lack of facilities to store them until sufficient radioactive decay)
How to submit test materials
When submitting pathology, please submit 10-20% formalin-fixed tissue, paraffin blocks,
unstained specimen slides, and stained specimens.
Note: Please inform Data Information in advance of any possible radioactive contamination
of patient specimens that have undergone radiation treatment or test.
■ 10-20% formalin-fixed tissue
To prevent the excised tissue from autolysis and drying,
please immediately place it in a container filled with 10-20% formalin solution (VP0) and fix it.
Fixative should be 10-20% formalin solution, and the volume should be sufficient
for 10 times the amount of tissue.
When submitting microtissue fragments from gastric biopsies, etc.,
please paste them on filter paper, etc., and place them in 10-20% formalin solution.
(When submitting more than one specimen, please write the number in pencil
on the filter paper or place each collection site (each number)
in a container containing 10-20% formalin).
Please submit one organ (one type of organ) in one container.
If the size of the organs is significantly different, be sure to separate the containers.
Note 1: Be sure to write the date and time when the tissue was placed in 10-20% formalin solution
on the request form (in the "Collection date" and "Collection time" columns).
Note 2: When submitting the tissue below, note the points in the table.
Tissue
Notes
Gastrointestinal tract and gallbladder
Please place the mucous membrane side up on a thin plate, fasten it with a pin,
and place it in a 10-20% formalin solution. After sufficient fixation (about 1 day),
submit the specimen in the above manner.
Lung
Please inject 10-20% formalin solution from the bronchial segment on the cut surface,
inflate the alveoli as much as possible to expel air, and then soak the tissue
in the 10-20% formalin solution. After sufficient fixation (about 1 day),
submit the tissue in the above manner.
Uterus, Breast, Kidney
Since fixation is often inadequate for the uterus and large organs,
a split surface should be inserted in advance before fixation.
Punch biopsy of stomach, intestines, etc.
(When putting on filter paper)
Please remove water well from the biopsy material, place it on a filter paper for about 10 seconds, and then place it directly into 10-20% formalin solution. (Be very careful not to dry out the tissue.)
Note 3: Tissues that are too large to fit into the dedicated pathology container (VP0) should be submitted in a histopack using the following method.
After removing the pins, etc. from the well-fixed tissue, please transfer the tissue into a histopack and add a small amount of formalin fixative. Please remove all air from the histopack and close the zipper at the top. Attach a label to the histopack with the patient's name and other information.
Paraffin block
Please submit paraffin blocks that have already been made, wrapped in gauze to prevent damage,
and placed in a plastic bag etc.
Unstained specimen slides
If you are requesting various types of staining using unstained specimen slides,
please write the number etc. on the slide glass and submit it so that the section is not damaged.
In some cases, sections may peel off during staining, depending on the preparation
of stained specimens or staining by enzyme-antibody request.
In such cases, we will ask you to resubmit unstained specimen slides.
Ultra-fine tissue
If it is unclear whether or not there is material for testing, such as due to very minute tissue,
the sample may be returned to the customer for reconfirmation.
How to fill out the request form and labels
When requesting a histopathology test, please use the dedicated “Pathology Test Request Form” and container. Please write the following information on the request form and labels.
Request form
Name, sex, age, birth date
Date of resection (collection), name of organ resected, number of organs resected
Clinical diagnosis name, clinical course, treatment, clinical test items
Registered specimen No. which is conducted previously
In case of gynecological disease, female breast disease, etc.,
please indicate menstruation, pregnancy status, etc.
When submitting large tissues such as stomach and lung,
please describe the instruction of excision site.
Container label and frozen tissue label
Facility name, name, sex, age
Please write the container No.(1, 2, 3,......) to link the container No. on the request form.
Please write the name of organ and number of resections as well.
(If the container No. and organ name are unclear, sometimes we can not return the test result.)
Test result report
Report of enzyme antibody staining test and various staining test
Report of test results will be completed by returning the stained specimens requested.
